Debt Forgiveness Programs
By Karen Madison

If you're struggling to pay your debt or have gotten behind, there are debt forgiveness programs that can help you settle your debt for pennies on the dollar. Debt forgiveness programs, also known as debt relief, can help you get out of debt in as little as one year. When you join a debt relief program, you make monthly payments to a debt relief agency instead of your creditors. The agency notifies your creditors that you're enrolled in there program. The company places your monthly payments in a savings account that they will use to negotiate a settlement with your creditors. It is common to pay back 25 to 50% of your original debt amount. You might ask why your creditor would be willing to settle. The reason is simple. When you get behind on your payments, the creditors risks getting nothing back and evenually considers your debt a charge or loss. By accepting a settlement offer, they're able to reclaim money that they may not of have been able to. The downside of debt forgiveness programs is that it can affect your credit score; however, the majority of people who enrol in debt relief programs are already behind on payments.
